Abstract
The paper deals with the solving of two methodological problems in the working up of the history of Slovak philosophy of Enlightenment and the period after Enlightenment: the struggle of materialism against idealism and the immanent development. Since materialism had not appeared in the history of Slovak philosophy for a long time, its development lead to materialism by gravitating of idealist systems — the deism, Hegelian pantheism, Tolstoy’s Christian pantheism. As far as the immanent development is concerned the author holds that the development of Slovak philosophy was mainly incited from without, problems, however, that arose in this process had specific philosophical form and were solved by philosophical means.
