Abstract
The period of the beginning of propagation of Marxist philosophic opinions in the region of the present Slovakia may be roughly specified from the period of the last decade of the nineteenth century to the foundation of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in 1921. It is thus three decades during which the organizations of social democratic party in Slovakia were founded and their first social democratic papers and journals appeared. The paper represents an attempt to determine the time span in which the beginnings of the development of Marxism in Slovakia fall, to characterize briefly the unification of Marxist philosophy (at the beginning of its penetration in Slovakia) and the political practice, to show the types of sources from which it is possible to draw information when researching the beginnings of Marxism and to specify the national specificity and problems of „professionalism“.
