Abstract

The paper focuses on so far neglected problematics concerning the political views of the founder of modern philosophy R. Descartes. The analysis is based on his interpretation of Machiavelli's Prince as embodied in his correspondence with Elisabeth, Daughter of Frederick the Vth. The author points out the essential characteristics of Descartes' political philosophy, namely his realism and moderation.
