Abstrakt

The paper offers a critical surway of anthropological, biocentric and pathocentric ethical conceptions of „animal rights“ and of so called „silent agreement“, showing their manin consequences for our practical relation to animals. The author concentrates on moral values conflicts implied in the protection of animals as well as on continuing controversy between the humanity preservation principle on one hand and the principle of the preservation of animals’ health and welfare on the other hand. He argues, that consistent and foreseeing protectors of animals should enforce all possible humane means limiting the population explosion. He also investigates the ways of possible collaboration between adherents of various ethical conceptions.
