Abstrakt
The Slovak and Czech Workers’ Association in Budapest did not pretend to solve principal problems of the class struggle and confined itself to, more or less, cooperative activities and non-political cultural instruction. As far as the development of the Slovak working Movement in Hungary of the XIXth ct. is concerned, the association helped as an organizational basis of workers in Budapest and as a platform for cooperation of the Czech and Slovak proletariat. These positive moments in the rise and activities of the association were depreciated by the fact that it was organized and ideologically influenced by the representatives of the so called New School, i. e. the members of Slovak bourgeoisie which naturally propagated ideas in the association that were conform to its class interests. It was, first of all, the idea of class cooperation and class union of workers and „capitalists, consequently the cooperation of two antagonistic social classes. Such cooperation had no prospects in view of the antagonism of class interests and opposite aims of both classes.
