Abstract

The paper aims at a critical analysis of two conceptions of the philosophy of history - those of St. Augustine and Hegel, both of them built up on an eschatological basis. The importance of Popper's criticism of historicism for the philosophy of history is also taken into account. In conclusion the author's own concption of the philosophy of history is outlined, based on the idea of evolutionism.
