Abstract

The paper delas with the early period of the philosophy of prominent Slovak neothomist Ladislav Hanuš, who was widely influenced by R. Guardini. Hanus as the only Guardini’s Slovak follower in the thirties and the fourties of this century calls for a closer relation between Slovak culture and modern European thinking. The positive traditions as the basis of every society and every state, should, however, be preserved. Contrary to fascistic tendencies in culture he stands for building the new Europe on the principles of Christianity and ecumenism. Inspired by Guardini, Hanus highly appreciates an outstanding French philosopher and mathematician B. Pascal.
