Abstract
Slovak cultural association „Matica Slovenská“ was active from 1863 to 1875 when its activity was forcefully interrupted. It was an important institutional guarantee for developing all scientific activities in Slovakia. It must be also picked out that it was warranty for possibility of publishing scientific works. The fact that among these works there were also published attempts to outline a philosophic system (Pavel Hečko), to find a place of Slovak culture and philosophy in the context of European philosophy (Samuel Ormis) to reflect philosophically problems of art (Ján Bella), to formulate anthropologic and ethical problems (Pavol Dobšinský, Samuel Ormis) — all this gave evidence of relatively good prospects of further development of philosophic thinking in Slovakia.
