Contribution to the Davist Criticism of Bourgeois Philosophy

Abstract
The young progressive intelligentsia gathered round the DAV magazine contributed to the spreading and elaboration of ideology and philosophy of Marxism-Leninism in the interwar period. The critical attitude to bourgeois culture is characteristic of all their activity in the interwar twenty years. The Marxist critique of bourgeois philosophy was a component part of their application and propagation of Marxism. The Davists paid attention to the directions of thought bound with the official bourgeois-democratic ideology of the Czechoslovak Republic. The Czech positivist philosophy that had an Important effect in Slovakia in that period and the writings of the Czech philosophers J. Tvrdý and J. Král were critically notified by E. Urx. The criticism of idealistic thinking, bourgeois science and of Masarykism was presented by L. Szántó in his writing. The Marxist criticism of bourgeois culture and thinking was contributed also by V. Clementis, who tried to influence the ideological orientation of the young generation towards Marxism-Leninism. The Davists with their polemic and critical activity also in the sphere of criticism of bourgeois thinking did relevantly contribute to the cultural and ideological development in Slovakia.
