Abstrakt

The paper deals with the process of marginalizing of Ján Čaplovič, a Slovak Enlightenment writer and defender of Slovak national concerns, in Hungarian culture of the 1st half of the 19th century. It examines the so called „Čaplovič’s paradoxes“, with the help of which Čaplovič ironized the natural right, natural philosophy, national philosophy and historiography from the perspective of the rationality of natural sciences. The author points out to the dominating narrative of the reform period (embodied in views such as those of G. Szontagh), which excluded Čaplovič’s interpretation of the problems concerned. This process took place on the background of so called „philosophy of harmony“ with its pretension to play the role of a national philosophy.
