Abstract

The ideology of the Slovak state (1939-1945) was based on theology rather than philosophy - it was in fact Christian Catholic. The rise of the Slovak state was justified by God's will and the so called Christian nationalism was its defense against Italian fascism and especially against the nazism of the German national socialism. Its representatives proposed the so called Christian or even Slovak national socialism. One of the chief theoreticians of the Slovak state, Štefan Polakovič, understood, for example, the "leadership principle” as "Christian totalitarism".
