Abstract

The article focuses on premises and consequences of social constructivism promoted by S. J. Schmidt. The methodological sources of this theory are natural sciences, the theory of systems and action theory. He applies them to the communication theory and literary theory. Besides the bright sides of this position, e.g. the interdisciplinary approach and the attempted scientific account of literary-theoretic notions, it suffers from several drawbacks due to its anti-realistic character. The latter affects especially the scientific status of interpretation, the evaluation of an artwork and the author’s motifs of his creativity.
