Abstract

The paper discusses a specific conception of explanation applied in humanities rather than in sciences. It was reconstructed and developed by Jerzy Kmita, who named it "humanistic interpretation". The author examines the structure of this explanation and its characteristics. One of its characteristic features is its conditions (explanans) embodying an idealized assumption of rationality (it thus plays the role of a scientific law). The difference between J. Kmita's humanistic interpretation and other psychological and naturalistic conceptions of humanistic interpretations is briefly outlined as well.
