Abstrakt

Otto Neurath, one of the most important thinkers of the „Viennese Circle“ during the twenties and thirties of this century, was only hesitantly noticed by empiricist and analytical philosophers after the Second World War. The peculiar mixture of an unrelenting logical empiricism („radikaler Empirismus) and a view of history and society arising from Marxist Materialism caused offense to many philosophers. In his contributions to the „Vienna Circle“ he proposes a picture of scientific knowledge including an utopian conception of social totality to by understood as a result of the efforts of the individuals working to achieve it. No mysterious principles that cannot be grasped by all of its members determine society.
