Abstract
A new light on the standing, the mission and importance of the generation of thinkers of the first half of the XIXth century (P. J. Šafárik, J. Kollár), who first proclaimed the idea of „Czechoslavia", makes it possible to find its organic place in the .evolution of Slavic conception, Panslavia, in Slovak cultural context and from the view-point of the development of Slovak nation towards an independent subject, moulding its own history. A brief specification of the understanding of this whole generation is one of the prerequisites for apropriation of its cultural heritage. The author argues that simultaneously with the refusal of the conception of „Czechoslovakism“ no revaluation of the standing and mission of this generation took place. Therefore, positive moments in the historical conditions of that time were not seen and were not separated in the process of negative apprehension of this doctrine in the subsequent period. The examined generation did not bear any uniform denomination, it has often been considered to have no homogenous doctrine. Because of its characteristic all-Slavic feature, it is called the „generation of Panslavia“.
